Q53: D not A (multicast is ony transmitted on mandatory rates!!)

I guess this is another tricky question IMHO.

I cannot confirm your answer is correct IMHO accordingly to the below:

Accordingly with the below link “Lightweight Access Points transmit multicast packets at the highest configured mandatory data rate”:

    http://www.cisco.com/c/en/us/td/docs/wireless/controller/8-1/configuration-guide/b_cg81/b_cg81_chapter_01111.html

I guess the correct answer is A. Clients are roaming at lower data rates and are not maintaining 36Mbps connectivity.

  3. CRC32
    December 20th, 2016

36 Mbps is the actual “highest configured mandatory data rate”. I guess that if those 36 Mbps cannot be maintained (for instance during roaming as mentioned in the scenario), the client will experience drops.

I assume the D option “Clients are maintaining a 12Mbps rate and cannot receive the stream at 18Mbps.” is not correct because 18 Mbps is not the “highest configured mandatory data rate”. It’s the lowest instead, that is used for beacons transmission, accordingly with the below link “Management frames like ACK or beacons will be sent at the lowest mandatory rate “:

    http://www.cisco.com/c/en/us/td/docs/wireless/technology/wlc/82463-wlc-config-best-practice.html

    Q55: AB not BD

I’m not sure about the correct answer to this question.

Searching for “adds capacity and resilience” expression I’ve found the sentence “The addition of RAPs into an area adds capacity and resilience to that area.” on the section “Increasing Mesh Availability” on the below link:

    http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/solutions/Enterprise/Mobility/emob30dg/WiMesh.html

That sentence matches option B almost word-by-word.

In the same section I’ve found another sentence regarding the cell size, that is the number of hops between the farest MAP and its RAP:

“This wireless mesh cell has similar properties to the cells used to create a cellular phone network; that is, although the technology might define the maximum size of the cell, smaller cells can be created to cover the same physical area, providing greater availability or capacity. This is done by adding RAPs to the cell.”

So, if the idea of the exam writer is to ask about RAP cell design and availability, maybe option B and D are the correct.

  5. CRC32
    December 20th, 2016

By other hand, accordingly with my general knowledge about mesh wireless networks the RAP “provides a wired connection for the wireless mesh APs” and due to that reason ” routes traffic from the wireless mesh to the wired network”.

In fact the mentoned link states that “One or more of the Cisco 1500 Mesh APs have a wired connection to their wireless LAN controller, and these are designated as rooftop mesh APs (RAPs).” and “A RAP, which provides the path home for the MAP traffic”

So I guess answers A and E are correct, but I’m not really sure about it, so I’d prefer to do not recommend any answer.

  6. CRC32
    December 20th, 2016

    Q57: B not D 802.11r is mentioned

Accordingly with the link below “The N+1 HA feature set within the Cisco Unified Wireless Network (CUWN) framework allows a single WLC to be used as a backup WLC for N primary controllers.”:

    http://www.cisco.com/c/en/us/td/docs/wireless/technology/hi_avail/N1_High_Availability_Deployment_Guide/Introduction.html

Accordingly with the scenario “the customer has two controllers in an N+1 deployment”.

So The customer should have a primary controller with all access points, and a backup controller in case the primary fails.

I guess what’s appening is that the backup controller is in another different mobility group than the primary controller causing the observed issue “wireless clients having to reauthenticate when they are walking around their office.”

So I guess the correct configuration is to have a active controller with all access-points and a backup controller in the same mobility group, that is option A.

In fact I’m not sure about the correct answer since the scenario is not clear. It’s only my best effort.

    Hi jimmy bones:

Many thanks for sharing the new question.

It does not seems to be difficult to answer it, as long as we have memorized the below table:

    Table 1  Rx SOP Thresholds

    802.11 High Medium Low
    Band Threshold Threshold Threshold
    5 GHz 76 dBm 78 dBm 80 dBm
    2.4 GHz 79 dBm 82 dBm 85 dBm

    Link: http://www.cisco.com/c/en/us/td/docs/wireless/controller/8-2/config-guide/b_cg82/b_cg82_chapter_010001111.html

For instance, if the client is 802.11a and has an RSSI of -81 dBm then having Rx-SOP configured to Low is causing the issue.

For instance, if the client is 802.11a and has an RSSI of -77 dBm then having Rx SOP configured to High is causing the issue.

I guess those 2 scenarios are correct, please let me know your thoughts.

BTW, f2racer, do you remember what you’ve done in the lab, regarding the access-points priority?

  12. CRC32
    December 20th, 2016

    Hi jimmy bones:

Regarding lab, I guess the High priority on both Access-Points is fine, despite no “low” priority AP is mentioned in the scenario (that means it’s not a real-world scenario).

If the Apply /save config buttons work, I guess we must click on them.

Let’s see if f2racer remembers his lab procedure.

    Hi jimmy bones:

Failover priority configuration encompasses a previous step, enabling Global AP Failover Priority feature, before set APs Failover priority as mentioned in Cisco Wireless LAN Controller Configuration Guide, Release 7.5:

Configuring Failover Priority for Access Points (GUI)
Step 1 Choose Wireless > Access Points > Global Configuration to open the Global Configuration page.
Step 2 From the Global AP Failover Priority drop-down list, choose Enable to enable access point failover priority or choose
Disable to disable this feature and turn off any access point priority assignments. The default value is Disable.
Step 3 Click Apply to commit your changes.
Step 4 Click Save Configuration to save your changes.
Step 5 Choose Wireless > Access Points > All APs to open the All APs page.
Step 6 Click the name of the access point for which you want to configure failover priority.
Step 7 Choose the High Availability tab. The All APs > Details for (High Availability) page appears.
Step 8 From the AP Failover Priority drop-down list, choose one of the following options to specify the priority of the access
    point:
    • Low—Assigns the access point to the level 1 priority, which is the lowest priority level. This is the default value.
    • Medium—Assigns the access point to the level 2 priority.
    • High—Assigns the access point to the level 3 priority.
    • Critical—Assigns the access point to the level 4 priority, which is the highest priority level.
Step 9 Click Apply to commit your changes.
Step 10 Click Save Configuration to save your changes.

    Link:

    http://www.cisco.com/c/en/us/td/docs/wireless/controller/7-5/configuration-guide/b_cg75/b_cg75_chapter_01110000.html

Since the The default value is Disable, it’s mandatory to configure it!

    Have you done that?

Do you remember the state of that configuration?

    Hi Jimmy bones:

Yes, this exam is really tricky. The lab scenario seems to be easy, too much easy to be truth, so I’ll keep working on it. Your info about it is really important, many thanks.

Regarding the simulation, it is really difficult to answer the questions since we to not have any screenshots about relevant menus of WLC. Apparently, it is not very complicated to check the items listed in the options, but, once again, only while sit the exam we can verify it.

    I’ll post the questions 53 / 55 / 57 next.

    53. A corporation has a Cisco Unified Wireless Network that has been deployed for voice
coverage. The wireless data rates have been tuned to mandatory rates of 18 Mbps and 36 Mbps.
Some wireless clients have been experiencing drops streaming multicast video while moving
throughout the building. What is the cause of the drop in video?
    A. Clients are roaming at lower data rates and are not maintaining 36Mbps connectivity.
    B. Clients are not roaming due to coverage. This is causing the multicast data to drop due to the client
    re-associating often.
    C. Clients are connected at 18Mbps; however, other clients are connecting at 12Mbps and are
causing the multicast video to degrade.
    D. Clients are maintaining a 12Mbps rate and cannot receive the stream at 18Mbps.
    Answer: A

    55. What are two functions of the RAP in a mesh network? (Choose two.)
    A. It provides a wired connection for the wireless mesh APs.
    B. It adds capacity and resilience to a mesh area.
    C. it creates a centralized management location for the mesh network.
    D. it reduces the hop count to the wireless network that is connected to the edge.
    E. it routes traffic from the wireless mesh to the wired network.
    Answer: B,D

    57. A customer called into the support center with a problem ticket that involves wireless clients
having to reauthenticate when they are walking around their office. After further investigation, it was
discovered that the customer has two controllers in an N+1 deployment. Which action must the
engineer take to troubleshoot the issue?
    A. Verify that the wireless controllers are in the same mobility group and that the access points are all
    on the primary controller.
    B. Under the SSID, make sure that 802.1 Iris configured and running for the clients.
    C. Make sure that the SSID has the authentication set to 802.1x with Cisco Centralized Key
Management so the data clients can roam seamlessly.
    D. Verify the access points are spread out between the primary and secondary controller and that the
controllers are in the same mobility group.
    Answer: D

Mostly in response to f2racer and CRC32:

    Q12. A
Q20. AB should possibly be DE. I’m not totally sure on this one. Don’t think AWPP is used to “discover a controller” though. For A, I don’t see how this can be possible as many MAPs have something hanging off their ethernet port but still connect back to the controller over wireless.
    Q26. unsure
Q34. BD I think it should be BE possibly.
    Q38. B answer provided correct I believe.
Q45. A should be B. I’m pretty sure. See “Recovering a Lost Root Password” Step 1 Caution in the link below.

    January 18th, 2017

    @DomoArigato
Really ? You went twice and failed then blaming passleader ? In all honesty, the only one you have to be pissed at is yourself. I keep saying that you should feel very fortunate to have access to the questions and proposed answers from the exam. The least you could do is revising the actual answers and do some reading to understand why you’re actually picking such and such …
If you can’t do this then save your money because you shouldn’t look into being CCNP certified.

  29. DomoArigato
    January 18th, 2017

Dear Wlan101, you are right. I am pissed at myself too I should have given more time to retake the test. I just wanted to be over with it. I have practically dealt with ISE (still need more experience) and PI on the job. I am pissed that I cannot get any updated study material online for this course without having to spend $5000 on bootcamps “Cisco’s preffered way” thats what cisco told me when I reached out to Cisco. Going thru brainsumps was my last resort. Now paying for $100 that gurantees pass for first time why not? Also, you can either be nice and helpful and please mind your condescending attitude. Clearly I am not the only person in the world rely on braindumps. Thats why braindump sites are all over the place a profitable industry just like cisco. And there are people like you and me are commenting in this blog/site. Since, you are an expert I would not mind your guidance. Thank you!

  30. DomoArigato

@Wlan101, my favourite site for learning and test prep was online videos at ipexperts.com kinda like bootcamp but way cheaper. which is no longer there. Thats what I had used in the past without relying on braindumps.

  31. Wlan101
    January 18th, 2017

    @DomoArigato
    https://learningnetwork.cisco.com/community/certifications/ccnp_wireless/wideploy/study-material

Print it all, take a highlighter and start you way through all the subjects.
Take a spreadsheet and track all the questions. information ref of the doc related to questions write what you’ve in mind and get it all nicely organized per column.

Have a look at some of the Cisco Live videos you’ll find some subject are pushed pretty hard.

The reason for being condescending is towards people that comes over braindump and taking exams like there is no tomorrow, next thing you know they can’t even answer simple question during interview which makes a very bad reputation of certification.
When I was reading the 6 pages of comments, I must really says that some people needs to simply stop networking and should never touch a network device. When I see someone who can’t even sort the simple basic subneting question and can’t even figure it out, sorry but how did that person even considered a career in networking ?

When I am reading people freaking out on the sim questions I am laughing and won’t help, because sorry but if you’re attempting the CCNP Wireless and don’t even have access to a WLC then why are you even attempting to become CCNP Wireless ? When I see the “wondering” about the MSE Grub password question, I am laughing as well because I faced that situation and not only do I exactly know the answer I’ll even leave a comment on the feedback section of the exam letting them know that I guarantee I can demonstrate that I’ll do it with using the CD/DVD media.

Enough talk, go over the link I’ve shared and follow my advise… It takes time but you’ll actually get the proper informations and set your knowledge level where it needs to be. Keep in mind that many of the questions are formulated in a way that you can’t simply do a search of the doc, that’s where the hands on experience will make the difference. If you read it all you’ll have the ability to cross the right informations based on knowledge of all the concepts involved.
Whenever you aren’t sure LAB it and you should be able to provide the reasons for picking answers, (No guessing anymore) whenever you’re reaching that level you’ll pass

If the VLAN is returned as one of the AAA attributes and that VLAN is not present in the FlexConnect AP database, traffic will switch centrally. If that VLAN is also not present on the WLC, the client will be assigned a VLAN/Interface mapped to a WLAN on the WLC.

If the VLAN is not returned from the AAA server, the client is assigned a WLAN mapped VLAN on that FlexConnect AP and traffic is switched locally.
Traffic flow on WLANs configured for Local Switching when FlexConnect APs are in standalone mode are as follows:

If the VLAN returned by the AAA server is not present in the FlexConnect AP database, the client will be put on a default VLAN (that is, a WLAN mapped VLAN on a FlexConnect AP). When the AP connects back, this client is de-authenticated and will switch traffic centrally.
If the VLAN returned by the AAA server is present in the FlexConnect AP database, the client is placed into a returned VLAN and traffic will switch locally.
If the VLAN is not returned from the AAA server, the client is assigned a WLAN mapped VLAN on that FlexConnect AP and traffic will switch locally.
