@jdrane….my mentor told me get back on the CW route so gonna hunt after CWSP next…Im gonna use that as my foundation for the WISECURE 300-375 on CCNP wireless

    @Dan
Have you used the 103 questions dump from the link of google drive that Conr43 posted in ‘page-18, thread#25’? Please let me know.
    Thanks

    @Manny
There are four exams of CCNP wireless. Which order you are going to follow to appear for certification? Or are you planning to consider CW track? If I have CCNA wireless do I need CWNA wireless? Please suggest me.

@Anonymous hey hey hows it going….so lil info on me I’m a true wireless engineer we have a separate wired team that handles that portion…my mentor/boss is a fan of CWNP route(Vendor Neutral)…its a lot of great knowledge but not known too much out of the wireless community….highly respected all the “Hall of Fame” in WiFi are CWNE if you are wanting to know the mechanics of WiFi thats a great route….so I tackled my CWNA last year and this year went with CCNA-Wireless….they are both great to have if you are serious about WiFi…

@Anonymous I am moving on to CWSP after discussing it with my mentor….I will use that knowledge in the WISECURE CCNP Wireless test….my mentor/boss is a speaker for both tracks CWNP/Cisco Wireless every year….CWNA will give you a lot of information about how WiFi really works….CCNA Wireless gives you a lot of information for administrating and setting up Cisco wireless networks…..I hope that helps….if you want to chat more hit me back….

Hello all, sorry for a noob question but are you allowed to use a scientific calculator for questions on converting?
    mW to dB
    dB to mW

  12. jdrane
    July 6th, 2016

    Heck no

  13. Manny
    July 6th, 2016

@Pancho hello and welcome no a calculator is not allowed for the test. Look on page 18 comments 69 through 80 we have some great dialogue about this from a question on the 103q. @Conr43 and I break down 10s and 3s. Keep asking the questions here to help.

    Hello Manny,

Thanks for the reply. Math is not my thing but I have learned the formulas and I can answers the questions with a calculator. Not sure how I’m going to figure this out without one. I see the example on page 18, what about questions like on the 103q?
    #2
    #19

I can find the answer with no problems using the calculator. How do you calculate these in your head?

  15. Manny
    July 6th, 2016

@Anonymous I got your message I need to look up the questions….I will definitely respond later today with an explanation

  16. Manny
    July 6th, 2016

@Anonymous…ok lets take a look at #2 here…The main thing to remember here is dealing with the “3’s” and power….for every 3dB you increase your power is increased by 2x(times)…

so lets take a device thats at 5mW and you want to increase the power by 3dB and you want the answer in mW….this is easy because you don’t have to worry about conversion….if you see 3dB double the mW so 10mW

In question 2 you are increasing the strength by 6dB….so first you know that 3 goes into 6 2 times….so take it step by step
    Base: 4mW
    +3dB: 2x4mW = 8
Now you take the 8mW and you have to double again because its 6dB
    +3dB: 2x8mW = 16mW

So by adding 3dB two times you have added 6dB and doubling the power twice to equal 16mW

  17. Manny
    July 6th, 2016

@Anonymous…on to q 19….this one is kinda of similar to q 2 however there is a little more we need to know…this question is dealing with both “10s and 3s”…

    As we discussed earlier for every +3dB we 2x(times the power) 5mW +3dB =10mW 5mW +6dB= 20mW etc…

    Now for every +10dB we 10x(times) the power for example 1mW +10dB = 1×10 = 10mW. 10mW +20dB =100×10 = 1000mW because 10 goes into 20 two times…so 10mW +10dB =100mW + 10dB=1000mW

The question asks for us to match the 60mW AP and we are starting with an AP that is at 3mW….first thing is using only 3’s and 10’s how do you make 60…well 3×2 = 6 and 6×10=60

Since we are at 3mW we need to double it….so we need to add another 3dB to get to 6mW now to get from 6mW to 60mW we need to take 6mW +10dB =6×10=60

Since we used one +3dB and one +10dB add those together and you get 13dB answer C

  18. Manny
    July 6th, 2016

@Anonymous Sorry I know this is a lot of information to throw at you….the concepts of 3s and 10s take some time to master…think of it as our (wireless engineers) struggle similar to learning subnetting.

If you can find a copy of of the 200-355 Cisco Press look at chapter 1 Section: Important dB laws to remember Page 17.

For me I learned this during my prepping for CWNA….and if you find that book CWNA-106 Chapter 3 starting at page 77 RF Mathematics….It provides much more detail than the CCNA-Wireless Cisco Press book and give some examples and exercises that really help build the foundation for me.

    Quick question @Manny or anyone who’s available….

When calculating the link budget for a wireless point-to-point bridge, the engineer notices that one antenna has
its gain marked as 2.85 dBd. With a 20-mW access point and 3-dBi loss for the cable, what is the approximate
    EIRP?

    A. 15 dBm
    B. 18 dBm
    C. 22 dBm
    D. 25 dBm

I was looking at answer (A) and (C) could someone give me insight which is the answer and why please?

  24. Manny
    July 7th, 2016

@jdrane hey hey hows it going…we chatted about this one on page 18….check this out….

@Anonymous…..good morning…..there is some good dialogue regarding this question I believe on page 14….however its always good to repeat and review stuff over and over right :-)….I had problems with this one too at first
So the key to this question is dealing with mW dBm dBd and dBi…..and the hang up for a lot of people including me was the dBd to dBi conversion…..
Gotta remember to deal with dBm and dBi you have to convert dBd to dBi and the formula is
    dBi = dBd +2.15
So when you look at the question the 2.85 dBd converts to 5dBi so thats the first part
Next you have to look at converting mW to dBm… Thats 10s and 3s…theres some good material by Jerome Henry on that and its hard to explain but 20mW = 13dBm….because 10mW = 10dBm and you need to get to 20mW and you add 3dB to that to double it
We have 13dBm of the AP
We have 5 dBi gain of the antenna
We have 3dBi loss of the cable
    Now add them all up
    13 + 5-3 = 15dBm and thats Answer A

    Hello.

I just pass the exam today morning. 103 questions dump is still valid. If anybody is serious about the certification, don’t hesitate and just go for it. Just remember, this is a certificate only and we should be persistent in order to strengthen our skills and experiences through study to justify the credential.

    Thanks

@Sushil hello and good day thanks for coming on this forum great place to learn some wireless..I know that your starting your journey for the CCNA-W most important thing I can telll you is to take the time and really learn the material, its so important if you really want to be a solid wireless engineer. As for the dumps please look on page 19 comments and you should see people talk about a google drive for the 103q its still valid.

I am a huge fan of Jerome Henry as far as study material. He has a lot of videos out there for anything beginning wireless….the Cisco press book is great for a start guide and the CWNA 106 book from sybex is a wealth of knowledge….if you need any help please let me know

Ladies & Gentlemen, CCNA Wireless 200-355 is valid 1000% I’m going to say this once…. If you need the 103Q check on the comments of page 18…. Please don’t just take the test for pleasure take the time to understand the purpose of the questions…. Some of it is common sense but more detail. I’ll admit I’m still learning about the wireless features and functions it’s worth the knowledge.
